    When to Travel
     
    You must remember that in the Southern Hemisphere, seasons are opposite to the ones in the North.

In general, Summer , with mild temperatures and long days is the most favorable season to go to Patagonia and Mid-Andes.

In Winter , you should travel to the North and Northeast since rains are not so frequent and tropical temperatures decrease some degrees.

Fall and Spring are magnificent in Buenos Aires , Cuyo and pre-mountain range areas of La Rioja and Catamarca

    Arriving at the city
   

Two airport serve the city:

Jorge Newbery Airport: Tourists coming from the interior of the country or from bordering countries arrive at this airport located by the riverside, five minutes away from downtown.

Ezeiza international Airport: Visitors from the rest of the world are welcomed at this airport located 15 minutes away from downtown through a highway. Offers taxi, remise, transfer and bus services 24 hours a day.

Buenos Aires is connected with the República Oriental del Uruguay through the river. Trips from Colonia and Montevideo are scheduled daily.

If you want to visit areas outside the Capital - such as the Delta- or neighborhoods distant from downtown, the railways provide an affordable service. Several lines allow access to the center of the city. The railway stations Retiro, Constitución, Once and F. Lacroze are terminal stations used as a place for passenger transfer. Fares are payable at the ticket offices located in every station and depend on the distance covered.

       
    Moving around the city
   

Buses: The bus (colectivo) is inexpensive means of transport to travel over the capital. There are more than 180lines going through the city and providing connection with all districts in the Greater Buenos Aires. The service is available at regular intervals.

Hours: Bus service is available all day long but its frequency decreases after 12 am.

Fare: $ 0.75 or $ 0.80

Subways: This is fastest and easiest way to reach your destination. The five subway lines (commonly known as "subtes") are connected with the main avenues and railway and bus stations, and converge upon downtown, the main tourist and hotel area.

Information boards showing each line routes and transfer stations between lines are available in all stations. These connections that allow passengers to use more than one line are called "combination".

Fare: Is flat, $ 0.70 and payable at the ticket offices located in the different stations.

The service runs Mondays through Saturdays, from 5 am to 10.30 pm, and Sundays and holidays from 8 am to 10 pm.

Taxis: They can be requested by phone or you may call them on the street. Radiotaxis (provided with radio systems) are considered safer. There is a great number of taxis in the city- getting a taxi near the tourist areas is easy at any time of day or night. Usually, you will wait for no longer than a few minutes.

Taxis can be easily recognized by their colors-black and yellow. In addition, a red light on the taximeter indicates that they are available.

The taxi rate is in Argentine pesos, and is equivalent to US$ 0.53 when the meter is auctioned + US$ 0.06 every 200 yards.

Remises: A sort of taxi service that you request by phone to the numerous agencies spread out in the city. These cars are not identified with a special colors and the service is recommendable for long distances.

The total fare varies according to the kilometers covered and time elapsed.

       
    How to travel for the country
   

Due to the fact that the country has huge dimensions, the plane is the best means of transport for long distances. You can combine it with terrestrial services.

Domestic flights are covered by Aerolíneas Argentinas, Austral, American Falcon, LADE and Southern Winds.

Domestic flights and those to Uruguay depart from Jorge Newbery Airport which is situated to the North of the city on the verge of River Plate.

The loading tax in domestic flights is $ 7,05 and to Uruguay is from U$S 16,50 to U$S 20,50.

    Currency
   

The Argentine currency is the peso ($). There are $ 100, $ 50, $ 25, $ 10, $ 5 and $ 2 notes, and 1, 50, 25, 10 and 5 cent coins. The U.S dollar is the most common foreign currency. Banks and currency exchange offices (casas de cambio) , where you must present your passport, exchange foreign currency. The U.S. dollar is accepted in most shops, but it is convenient to exchange them for pesos in exchange offices or banks.

The main banking area is located in the so-called "city". This area comprises the first five blocks (numbered 100 to 500) of San Martin, Reconquista, 25 de Mayo, Sarmiento, Presidente Juan Domingo Peron and Mitre streets.

       
    Tax Free
   

Argentina offers tax exemptions tourists. At the airport, and on departure day, you may request to be refunded the Value Added tax (VAT) paid for articles purchased in shops having a sign reading: TAX FREE. To that purpose ( VAT in Argentina amounts to 21%). You should keep all invoices or tickets and fill out a form you may request at the Airport.

The country code for Argentina is 54 and the area code for Buenos Aires is 11.

For example, to call to 4555-5555 from outside the country, you should dial: 54-11-4555-5555.

Buenos Aires has many public telephone booths. Public phones operate with: 5, 10, 25, 50-cent and 1-peso coins and phone cards that may be bought at any quiosco (sweet and tobacco stalls). These phones support urban, national and international calls.

In addition to public phones, there are many communications centers ( locutorios and telecentros) offering telephone, fax and internet services.
